Uniworld, one of our favorite luxury river cruise lines, is launching its new diffusion brand U by Uniworld next year, and we're super pumped about it! U by Uniworld's river cruises deviate from the industry norm in a few crucial ways, and these differences have us eagerly anticipating their debut in 2018.
Here are 4 key reasons we're excited about U by Uniworld:
#1// Cabin variety.
While most river cruise ship cabins cater to couples, U by Uniworld's ships (the "A" and the "B") offer flexible options that can accommodate a variety of traveler types. There are "studio triple" cabins that contain three twin beds -- perfect for groups of friends traveling together. Also, there are smaller cabins that solo travelers can occupy, and, for sociable solo travelers, there's an option to be paired with a like-minded roommate, thus saving on costs and making a new travel friend :-).
#2// Cool onboard activities.
U by Uniworld is designed for a slightly younger crowd than the typical river cruise, and its onboard activities reflect that. Think free yoga and TRX classes, plus other fun stuff like silent discos featuring local DJs and paint & wine sessions on the top deck!
#3// Flexible onshore options.
River cruises are a great value because the ships are small and able to dock directly in city centers (saving you time and transportation $$), and they offer free excursions in each port of call. U by Uniworld takes the value up a notch with its flexible choices.
Every itinerary stop includes a free excursion that's timed for younger travelers, meaning later start times in the morning, and even some late-night excursions to take advantage of nightlife in cities like Paris. You'll also have the option to join various "U Time" excursions tailored to a range of interests and paces, from high-energy rock climbing in Switzerland to low-key cheesemaking (and tasting!) in Amsterdam. And of course, if you don't feel like joining a group activity at any given stop, you're always welcome to wander and explore on your own. U by Uniworld makes independent exploration easy with its fleet of bikes that you're free to use at any port call.
#4// Great itineraries.
U by Uniworld's 2018 cruises explore some of the best places in Europe, sailing 27 ports of call, six countries and four rivers. Itineraries include 8-day cruises, holiday cruises, and the option to take “super cruises” that link two or three itineraries back-to-back. We love how the itineraries mix vibrant cities like Amsterdam, Paris, and Frankfurt with quainter villages that feature beautiful scenery and nature. At many stops, U's ships stay overnight or until the wee hours, giving you freedom to enjoy local nightlife and dining (yay, night owls rejoice!). Plus, in a nod to the amazing food throughout Europe, U's itineraries do not include lunch on board, giving you a lower overall cruise fare and the opportunity to experience authentic local cuisine everywhere you stop.
